| Welcome To YCC |
|
On the water and off, YCC is one of the liveliest and best kayak clubs in the country.
But you don’t have take our word for it – we’ll admit to being just a tiny bit biased. Please have a look around this site or better still come and join us in person and find out for yourself!
![]() We meet every Wednesday night throughout the year either on the river or in the pool. After every session, you will always find us enjoying a little liquid refreshment in the Black Swan on Peasholme Green. See - Where Do We Meet? - for more info. But that’s just for starters… weekends and holidays are serious playtime and YCC members make the most of them. Club trips are organised throughout the year. We paddle all over England, Wales and Scotland - some of our ‘regulars’ are the Upper Tees, the Kent, the Lune and the Wharfe, but why stop there? Our more advanced paddlers are spoilt for choice on a wet weekend in winter, with the Dales, Lake District and North Wales all in striking distance for a day of adrenaline fuelled entertainment. Out of season we’re regulars at Holme Pierrepont in Nottingham, Teesside, the Tryweryn and the Washburn and we have the pick of some of the finest surf beaches in the Northeast. If all that sounds a bit run of the mill, how does the paddling abroad grab you? In recent years, YCC paddlers have ripped it up in France, Austria, Switzerland, Slovenia, Canada, Turkey, the USA, Uganda and Zambia and Chile. We’ve even been known to dabble in spot of sea kayaking…. If you need any more information why not catch us at the pool / river or in the pub every Wednesday night. Here's a clip of a recent beginners trip to the Lakes...
And here's what our more "experienced" paddlers get up to...
(Helen in Chile) And to give you an idea of which trips to look at: Beginner - starting out, you should have had a few hours on moving water before, if not then see the organiser (but don't be too disappointed if it's a no, safety comes before fun) Open to all - for anyone who have been on moving water before, expect grade 2 with some grade 3, no need to roll but be prepared to do some "wild stuff" Intermediate - been on a some trips, have done a roll on moving water before (but perhaps it's not working every time), expect grade 3 and possibly 4 Intermediate/Advanced - you can run a grade 3 without problems, usually the big group would split up with some doing grade 3/4 and some doing more extreme stuff (This is a very loose interpretation so if in any doubt check with the organiser of the trip) Also, these are not all the trips there will be but just the official ones. Some of the YCC bunch are out there on the rivers almost every weekend and more trips are already being planned. Watch this space! Check out the FORUM for more info.
