York Canoe Club is a privacy conscious organisation and is strongly committed to your right to privacy. That is why we have drafted a Privacy and Data Protection Statement, which follows guidelines set out in the Data Protection Bill and the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) published on 14 September 2017 which will implement the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) in the UK.
The Data Protection Bill
The Data Protection Bill and the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) set rules for processing personal information and apply to structured paper records as well as data held on computers. It applies to all records, including those structured other than by reference to the data subject, and completely unstructured files.
York Canoe Club’s Use and Storage of Data
The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) states that those who record and process personal information must be open about how the information is used and must follow the eight principles of ‘good information handling’. These principles state that data must be:
- Lawfully, fairly and transparently processed
- Processed for limited purposes
- Adequate, relevant and not excessive
- Accurate and up-to-date
- Limited in storage in the form that permits identification
- Processed in line with your rights
- Confidential and secure
- The right of access gives citizens the right to access their personal data
- The data subject has the right to request erasure of personal data related to them on any one of a number of grounds
- Personal data cannot be transferred to countries outside the European Union unless they guarantee the same level of data protection

Is information passed to third parties?
It is York Canoe Club’s policy to only disclose information to third parties if explicitly required to do so by United Kingdom Law. York Canoe Club will obtain your consent before passing on any information to any third parties. York Canoe Club does not collect or compile personally identifying information for dissemination or sale to external parties for marketing purposes.
