Thank you for you interest in joining York Canoe Club.
For more information then we provide on this page please get in touch and we can advise you on the best route into the club. Usually we will invite you down for a chat at our Wednesday club session.
If you have experience and your own kit we can usually process your application quickly, and get you straight on the water with us. At the moment we have sufficient capacity to accept membership for paddlers with experience who need to borrow paddling kit.
For those new to kayaking and canoeing we offer a “new starters programme”. This introduces you to basic techniques and gets you started. We have a limit on the number of people we can accommodate on a new starters course, so there will be a wait of up to two months depending on the numbers on the waiting list and when you apply to join.
There are two routes into the club:
If you have enough paddling experience and your own kit you can normally join straight away. We ask all experienced paddlers to come down and do a short assessment so that we can assess your ability and ensure you get the best out of the club.
You would normally need to be at least BCU 2 star standard to enter by this route.
If you need to borrow club kit, there may be a short wait, particularly in the winter where boat storage is limited.
Our ‘Introduction to Paddling’ course has recently changed and more details will be put here soon. In the meantime if you wish to join please add you name to our waiting list by filling in the form on the Waiting List Page. If you’re name is already on the waiting list you’ll be invited as soon as a space become available.
Many thanks for your interest in YCC, we look forward to seeing you on the water soon!
