Welcome to YORK CANOE CLUB

Hello from York Canoe Club.

York Canoe Club is a friendly white water focused kayak club with a diverse membership, based in the centre of York.

Experienced paddlers are always welcome, and we provide a network where you can get out with like minded paddlers most weekends.

Beginners are equally welcome and we have an established induction programme to introduce you to the sport.

Most of our time is spent white water kayaking, but there are opportunities for flat water paddling on the Ouse and open boating for those who prefer one blade, particularly on club nights.

Where to find us

We meet every Wednesday night in York at the pool or on the river depending on the time of year.

Prospective Members

We want you to make sure YCC is the right club for you.

Prospective members are entitled to attend up to three sessions before joining;  this would include an Assessment session (£14) and two Taster sessions (£8).

Taster sessions are not available to lapsed YCC members, who are welcome to rejoin the club without undertaking an assessment.

See Membership Costs for details of session charges.

Winter time

During the winter (September – April), our weekly sessions are held at Yearsley Pool.

We get on the water at 20:20 and finish an hour later at 21:20. Places are limited and we operate on a first come first served basis. We are often over subscribed so best to get there and pay your pool fee before 8pm.

We have a small number of boats, paddles and spraydecks for hire on club nights at the pool. Please note people attending the beginners course take priority when this is running.

When you arrive head up the stairs on the left hand side of the pool to sign-in and pay your pool fee.

Pool Fees: CARD ONLY - we no longer accept cash.

Summer time

During the summer (May – August), we meet at our boathouse in Rowntree park and then paddle on the River Ouse from 7 pm to dusk (around 8.30 pm).

There is no session charge for members on river nights.

At the river we have a wide selection of boats, paddles, BA's and spraydecks that members can use.

Bring warm clothing/wetsuit, and old shoes that you don't mind getting wet. Also, bring a full change clothes for afterwards!

Our boathouse is in the Pavillion by the tennis court in Rowntree Park. Parking is available in Rowntree Park Car Park.
Afterwards

After sessions in the pool, members of York Canoe Club may often be found in the Black Horse on Monkgate.

After sessions on the river, members of York Canoe Club may often be found in the Slip Inn on Clementhorpe.
